Before joining the Ben and Catherine Ivy Foundation, Dr. Salcido worked as the manager of scientific programs at Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure, a non-profit organization focused on funding translational research in the brain cancer field. Dr. Salcido also has worked in strategic management consulting in the biopharmaceutical industry, conducting technology assessments and performing market research in a broad spectrum of therapeutic areas, including chronic pain, cardiovascular disease and neurological disorders.

Dr. Salcido is a graduate of Stanford University, where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in biology. Before pursuing graduate studies, she conducted research in gene therapy at the Salk Institute and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. She obtained her doctorate from the Oregon Health & Sciences University where she conducted studies in neuropharmacology at the Vollum Institute. During her post-doctoral fellowship at Stanford University, she investigated the molecular pharmacology of human insulin receptor signal transduction.
